Trust Not

Today’s Encouragement is, “I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:5 NLT

Trust Not –

Paul was referring to the style, the approach of his recent preaching. “And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit” (v4). He then explained why he used that approach, so that – you would not trust in human wisdom but in the power of God.

Now there’s absolutely nothing wrong with seeking help from others! It’s often necessary, and godly, mature believers can certainly help lead us in the right direction. However, we are advised here not to put our trust in human wisdom. This is the wisdom of this world, which is always contrary to God’s wisdom. We find His wisdom throughout the Bible, reflected in the words and actions of Jesus. The Truth is Jesus (John 14:6). He is our source of godly wisdom.

People have written billions of books over the years, more than can be counted, much less read. Some of these writings are influential; the teachings may last for years, decades, even centuries! But only God’s Word is eternal; His Truth stands forever (1 Peter 1:24).

Test every thought, idea, or principle against the Truth. Place your trust in the Truth, and let man’s wisdom fade, just as the grass withers.

Thank You, Father, for providing us the comprehensive, inexhaustible, perfect compilation of Your wisdom in the Bible. Written over 1500 years by 40 authors, it is Your eternal Truth and Wisdom that we can trust.
