Today’s Encouragement is, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” (James 1:2 NLT)
Consider It –
Yesterday, we discussed the “Great Joy” available to believers when facing trials, troubles, sorrows, or pain.
This perspective is ours to choose. We can “consider it” as an opportunity for joy — and that is entirely our decision. We can choose to believe that God is angry with us, or punishing us, or that the world is against us, or perhaps that we deserve this trouble through karma or superstition.
Or we can choose to believe God’s Word — and consider it an opportunity for great joy.
We recognize that trouble in this life is inevitable. This verse says “when troubles come,” not “if” they come. Jesus confirmed it: “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” (John 16:33b)
But He said it in the same breath as this: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me… take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33a, c)
As God’s people, we are “in” this world, but we are not “of” it or limited by it. We have the distinct privilege of seeing truth through God’s eyes and His Word — and we can choose to see the opportunity for great joy in troubles of any kind.
Thank You, Father, for such a powerful choice. It is astounding to consider the wonderful opportunities You give us even in hard times. Help us to choose Your way and to consider all our troubles as opportunities for great joy!
