Today’s Encouragement is, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.” John 14:16 NLT
Never Leave You –
Jesus introduced His disciples to the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. In this final teaching, just hours before His arrest, Jesus informs them that He is leaving but will be replaced by an even better blessing! “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.” John 16:7 NLT
Too often we think, “I don’t feel like God is near,” or “He seems so far away,” or “God has left me.” And we often pray, especially in modern worship songs, “Come, Holy Spirit, fall on us today, fill this place with Your presence.” All of which sounds deeply spiritual.
But, my friend, Jesus told us that God has given us His Holy Spirit – “who will never leave you,” so we must honestly ask ourselves, “Why would I ask God for something He has already given?”
Is it possible that:
Jesus told the truth?
The Holy Spirit is with us, and He will never leave us.
And is it also possible that we don’t feel or sense His Presence because we aren’t listening, waiting, and seeking Him?
No condemnation here, (never for us as believers!)
Jesus essentially said, God’s Holy Spirit is alive in us now. He isn’t partially present. We can turn to Him, listen to Him, rest in Him, rely on Him, trust in Him, and be led by Him.
Thank You, Father, for Your Holy Spirit, living within us, always. Help us to recognize His presence, and to allow You to guide us through Him.
