Today’s Encouragement is, “The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.” John 20:30-31 NLT
These are written –
Of course, we have a record of only a small portion of Jesus’ teachings, miracles, and conversations. A book, even the Bible, cannot contain the entire life of a person. It can describe, quote, recount, report, and relay what was said and done. It can be accurate, precise, and even complete, yet the person described still is vastly more than can be written. And Jesus is immensely more so than any other person.
What we do have, the written account of His life, actions, and teachings, as well as the interpretation, wisdom, and perspectives of His closest friends and disciples, is written, given to us, miraculously preserved for centuries, all for a specific purpose:
So that you may continue to believe –
that Jesus is the Messiah-
the Son of God-
and that by believing in him-
You will have life-
by the power of his name.
We, who believe in Jesus, have Life! The power of His Name (including all that we can know about Him, plus what we believe, plus what we cannot know about Him, what wasn’t written) gives us – Life. And this Life He gives is eternal, fulfilling, purposeful, and abundant!
Father God, thank You for providing us with the written Word, preserved through the centuries, so that we may believe in Jesus and have Life!
