Know His Voice

Today’s Encouragement is, “After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. [5] They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” John 10:4-5 NLT

Know His Voice –

These are Jesus’ words; His explanation of our relationship to Him. He is our Shepherd, and we are his followers. And we identify Him as our own Shepherd, because we know His voice.

Now, the devil is the father of lies (John 8:44), and one of the many lies he tells is, “You cannot hear the voice of God. Only mentally ill people claim to hear or believe that they are hearing the voice of God.”

Throughout scripture, the prophets heard the voice of God. Jesus said in this scripture, all who know Him will follow Him – because we know His voice!

He did not say my people “know my words” or my people “know what has been written about me,” Instead, He used the word voice; He clearly said, “my sheep know my voice,” the voice of their Shepherd. And they follow that Shepherd because they know that specific Voice.

My friend, we can hear the gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12) of God in our hearts and minds. We do not hear it with our ears, but we recognize it (we know His voice) with our spirit because He is in us (see John 17:21).

Father, we need Your help to have ears to hear the Voice of Jesus. Help us to listen in faith, measuring what we perceive against Your written word. Help us to hear your Voice, and to follow You.
