Today’s Encouragement is, Then Jesus told him this story: “A man loaned money to two people-500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?” Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.” “That’s right,” Jesus said. Luke 7:41-43
Loved Him More –
In this parable:
Money was lent, a debt was owed.
The borrowers could not repay.
The lender was kindly forgave the debt.
Jesus taught that the one who was forgiven the greater debt would love the lender even more than the one who was forgiven less!
A sinful woman had just washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, wiped them with her hair, and anointed them with ointment. And Jesus said, “I tell you, her sins-and they are many-have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Luke 7:47
My friend, when we recognize how deeply sinful we are, only then do we realize how great our debt is/was! The debt which we could never repay, and which Jesus freely forgave!
The more clearly we see our sinfulness, the depth of our depravity, and our need for a Savior, the more clearly we see God’s unlimited and amazing Grace. The deeper our need, the deeper His Grace. And the more we understand that His Grace is truly sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9), the more our natural response is gratitude, rejoicing, and a deeper Love for our God!
Thank You, Father, for allowing us to see how great our need for Your Grace and Forgiveness is. Help us to love You More.
Gratitude
