Today’s Encouragement is, “And the LORD came and called as before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel replied, ‘Speak, your servant is listening.’” 1 Samuel 3:10 NLT
Speak –
The Lord called young Samuel three times before the boy acknowledged that he heard God’s voice, and only after Eli had helped him understand. We are like that, we often don’t recognize God’s
voice when He speaks.
But He is patient with us (2 Peter 3:9), He will graciously continue to call until we begin to listen.
We argue (don’t we always?), “But how do I know that it is God speaking? I don’t want to be one of those people who hear voices! They get locked away!”
It isn’t difficult, my friend, to recognize God’s voice. It is utterly different from all other voices! Not in audible tembre or tone, but in substance. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 NLT
The Voice of God is that of our loving and perfect Father. He speaks only Truth to us. Every word is consistent with the Word He has already given us, the written Word and the Living Word, Jesus.
He doesn’t condemn or accuse; He comforts and reassures us. He doesn’t frighten us or cause anxiety; He brings us His Peace. He doesn’t sow seeds of doubt, despair, or depression; He speaks of Faith, Hope, and Love.
God’s Voice is authority, wisdom, mercy, and Love. “Listen to Him. (Matthew 17:5b)
Thank You, Father, that we can hear You speak, both through Your written word and through Your Living Word, Jesus. Help us to hear and to obey Your Voice!
