Practice These Qualities

Today’s Encouragement is, “Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.” 2 Peter 1:10 ESV

Practice These Qualities –

These qualities are listed in verses 5-7 “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.”

We can practice.
Want to learn to play the piano?
Then Practice.
Lessons alone won’t cut it.
Whatever we want to learn, we must gain the knowledge and then put into practice. The place for errors, failures, mistakes is during practice.

Want to grow in faith, godliness, and love?
Then take lessons (listen to biblical preaching, study God’s Word) and then practice these qualities!

You might notice that our main response to change is not addressed here, “Well, Nobody’s Perfect!” But the idea of practice recognizes the effort of working toward a goal, as opposed to perfection.

Remember too that we supplement our faith (v5) with these qualities. Our faith in Jesus is our salvation. These qualities are the indicators of our the maturity level of our faith.

We pursue spiritual growth because we recognize that it provides the best way of life, gives us the best coping skills to weather the storms of this life… then, my friend, “you will never fail!”

Thank You Father, for allowing us to practice, giving us opportunity to stumble as we learn, and to continue to practice the virtues of the nature of Jesus.
