Today’s Encouragement is, “His disciples came and asked him, ‘Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?’ He replied, ‘You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.’” Matthew 13:10-11 NLT
Secrets of the Kingdom –
Jesus taught the Truth to everyone, but He usually spoke in parables. These stories are rich in substance and truth. They are memorable, allowing anyone to retain the story, and yet, few ‘are permitted’ to understand the secrets in His parables. What secrets? The secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus explains here the reason He taught in parables.
My friend, because we believe in Jesus, we are, like His disciples, permitted to understand these Kingdom Secrets!
Jesus further explained, “But others are not!” We cry out, “Wait! That isn’t fair! Shouldn’t everyone be permitted to understand?” Our human sense of fairness is indignant!
Yet, haven’t we seen this truth in our everyday lives? Some people have “ears to hear”; they will listen to good advice, sound wisdom, and instruction, and others will not hear! For these “not-hearing” people, every rule is to be broken, or ignored, every word of wisdom is to be mocked, shouted down, denied, and refuted. This is the way of the world; it is how most people act. These are the “others” which Jesus later explains, “have ears but do not hear” (v 15)
However, my friend, by God’s grace, we “are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven!”
Thank You, Father, for choosing, allowing, and permitting us to know, hear, see, and understand the secrets of Your Kingdom! Help us in this, Lord! We are listening!
