Made Me Forget

Today’s Encouragement is, “Joseph named his older son Manasseh, for he said, ‘God has made me forget all my troubles and everyone in my father’s family.’” Genesis 41:51 NLT

Made me Forget-

The Hebrew word Manasseh means “causing to forget.” Joseph had every reason not to forget or to forgive!  His own brothers sold him into slavery, then lied to their father and pretended that a lion had killed him.  Talk about a dysfunctional family!

But later, Joseph acknowledged that ‘God had made him forget’ as he named his son Manasseh.

We have discussed that God forgives all who believe in Jesus, and when God forgives, He forgets.  And here is another aspect of God’s incredible grace and mercy for us… He can cause us to forget!

This is consistent with our rebirth.  As believers, we have a powerful message of freedom from the pain of our past because we are made new! “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”  2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT

The old life, its sorrows, suffering, and pain… is Gone! We are now – Brand new!

Father God, please help us to accept Your forgiveness, and then to forgive ourselves and all who have hurt us, to forget our past, the shame, the wounds, the failures, the pain we’ve suffered, and become truly new, free, at rest in Jesus.

Manasseh
