You Don’t Ask

Today’s Encouragement is, “Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” James 4:2 NLT

You don’t ask –

How many of us struggle with something – but don’t ask God for help?

We might read this passage with a selfish heart and think, “I should ask for a new car!” but we’re way off base!

Is it possible that we avoid asking for the most critical things?

I’m often puzzled by folks who share their most significant wants or needs, such as, “I wish I could…” or” I’m really trying to…” But when asked, “How are you praying about that?” They answer, “Well, honestly, I haven’t been!”

These are the “Big things” we could be praying about… although we can indeed pray for anything, anyone, and at any time, we sometimes miss the opportunity to pray about the most important issues!

Prayer is no magic wand.  But it is God’s plan for us to communicate with Him, to make our needs, hopes, wishes, and dreams clear to ourselves and to Him.  He already knows, of course, so we are truthfully only defining these matters for ourselves!

But again, it’s His plan for us!

He is in complete control of how, when, and in what manner He responds to our prayers. But by faith, we know He listens, hears, responds, cares, and answers.

Is it possible that it’s true? We don’t have… because we don’t ask?

Father God, help me to pray about the Big Things like:

Forgiving someone.  Freedom from addiction. Growing in relationship with my spouse. Reading my Bible. Praying continuously. Stop judging others.

I believe You can do these things for me that I cannot do for myself. I ask this in Jesus’ Name.
