Today’s Encouragement is 2 Corinthians 4:18 ESV “…as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
Things that are unseen –
We are to look to – with expectation, evaluate, anticipation…
the things – whatever those may be…
That are unseen… there’s so much ‘unseen’!
And these are eternal…
We spend most of our lives looking to or focused on the ‘seen ‘things. In this instance, the troubles of this life (v17); debts, medical issues, death, grief, and needs, are the things we are facing (looking to). But God tells us the Truth… that these troubles are not eternal, verse 17 says they’re light and momentary, and instead they ‘produce for us’ eternal glory!
So, the unseen things which we ARE to look to, focus on… what are these? God Himself is unseen and eternal. The home in heaven He has prepared for us is unseen and eternal. His Peace is also unseen and eternal. And, ‘Three things will last forever-faith, hope, and love-and the greatest of these is love.’ (1 Cor 13:13 NLT) God’s Love, not human love… is eternal and the greatest thing!
These are some unseen and eternal things… and we are wise to look at these unseen things. Removing the trouble, suffering, grief, fear … all the pain of this life from our eyes and lifting our heads, beyond today’s pain to see… the eternal glory of the Unseen.
Father God, open our eyes, lift our gaze, help us look to You, and see beyond our light and momentary troubles, past our pain to our Eternal Glory with You!
