Today’s Encouragement is Luke 23:48-49 And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow. But Jesus’ friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching.
Stood at a distance –
Perhaps this group of ‘all his acquaintances’ included the disciples. Certainly Mary Magdalene, maybe Nicodemus, or the centurion whose daughter was restored to life, perhaps Lazarus too was there with his sisters Mary and Martha, all these unnamed… standing, watching… in silence… from a distance.
For a moment, allow your imagination to take you to that day, to that very place, you’re among them, standing with his disciples around, the people who loved Him, respected Him, knew Him… and now the sun has blackened, the earth quakes… he’s been killed, brutally, viciously beaten and crucified… and it’s over, it’s all over. His life is gone, his wisdom which He shared with everyone, His Love, His caring attention to each person’s need… he seemed to look directly into our hearts…. and now, this wonderful man, this Son of God…. is dead.
Such a sobering, heartbreaking thought…
but my friends…
we know the rest of the story…
We know that…
