Today’s Encouragement is John 6:61 NLT Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining, so he said to them, “Does this offend you?
Complaining-
In chapter 6 John relates the complaints of the Pharisees (v41), and even some of Jesus’ disciples (v60).
Friends- our complaining, especially about what Jesus says, is part of our human condition and fallen nature. It is not constructive, but rather indicates our doubt, our questioning and even distrust. Some of us have elevated it to an art form! Social media makes it so easy to air our unbridled thoughts!
Jesus had said in John 6:41 “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” And in (v51) “Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
Of course, it was a shocking thought, and while He was speaking metaphorically, the example was just too graphic for them to accept… and many deserted Him (v66).
When we disagree with Jesus we are on dangerous ground. So many have found and clung dearly to some issue, concept, or statement of His and said, “I just can’t believe that.” As these deserting disciples did… they focused on this issue, which they didn’t understand, and said “No more!”
My friend, the journey of discipleship is an exploration, with new truths and new revelation occurring regularly. Our guide in this journey is His Word and His Holy Spirit. We must choose to trust Him, what He says and where He leads, even when we cannot yet fully understand.
Father Help us have faith to believe what You have said, even though we do not yet understand.
Do I Trust You
