Today’s Encouragement is Mark 8:2 ESV “I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat.
I have compassion-
Friends, Jesus didn’t feed the crowds of thousands to demonstrate His power. He did not heal the blind because he wanted to prove that He could. No, He did His miraculous works because He had compassion, because He knows and loves people.
He didn’t want them to leave hungry, (v3) [He said]“And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” He knew that certain ones in this crowd of thousands had ‘come from far away’…. He knew that Isaac, the bread baker, son of Simeon and Deborah and their children Rebecca and Eli had come from Caesarea, from their 2-room home on Market Street. This is how He knows us, and even more intimately! And He had compassion for their need, their hunger…
Is it possible, my friends, that Jesus has this same compassion for you, today, now, in your hunger? Or when your feet hurt, or your back aches, your loneliness, your sorrow, your financial stress, or you have a tiny thorn in your sock? In our every need, is it possible; He has compassion?
Seem unimaginable? How about feeding 4000 people with 7 loaves of bread.
Lord Jesus, we thank You for Your immeasurable compassion for us. You know each of us personally, yet You still extend to us Your full grace. We do not deserve such kindness. But, as limited as we are, we are grateful.
Our God is Compassionate
