An enemy of God

Today’s Encouragement is James 4:4 NLT You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

An enemy of God –

Well, that’s certainly not very encouraging!   True, except that learning this foundational truth frees us from many traps and struggles in this journey we call the Christian Life.

Friends we are set apart.  Chosen by God to be His adopted family.   We don’t belong to this world any longer.  Remember this world it’s people, the earth, even the universe, is passing away, it has a limited lifetime.  Everything was and is created for God’s pleasure for His purposes, and… for a time.

The things of this world may sparkle and shine, luring us to pursue them… yet in the end they all disappoint… because we are no longer ‘of this world’  and thus the things of this world will not, cannot satisfy our hearts.  We have been re-created with one crucial longing, as the children of God… to be His and to do His will.  Nothing this world offers can compare nor satisfy.

Friendship with the world or friendship with God.  We cannot have both.  I don’t know about you, but this world doesn’t really have that much to offer.  I used to think it did, but not any longer…  I choose to be a friend of God, very content to leave this world behind.  In truth, choosing this world, makes us enemies of God.

Father open our eyes to the truth of Your Love and the immense superiority of relationship with You rather than this world.

This world is not my home
