Today’s Encouragement is Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, [14] I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Toward the goal –
Do you have a goal? It’s become common knowledge that to accomplish things, goal setting can be quite effective. A few goals which I’ve set and achieved have been milestones in my life, however, I have to admit, the achievement of these goals is somewhat, if not completely, hollow. Immediately after one goal is reached, another goal must be set, or apathy sets in. And so, we become driven…
Paul speaks of pressing on toward the single highest goal of man… the upward call of God.
It is unattainable in this life, in contrast to our ordinary human goals. Yet it alone is the rewarding journey; the journey of ‘pressing-on’ provides the reward.
How does one ‘press on’? Is it possible that we believers press on by: prayer, surrender, obedience, and faith? I have no single thought to define the how-to… but I do have a Book!
Father help us lay aside all lesser things, lesser goals, all striving after earthly things, that with Your guidance we will press on toward the goal of the upward call of Christ.
