Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 115:4-5,8 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. [5] They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. [8] Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.
Become like them –
We become like the things we idolize. God described the people who worshipped idols as deaf and dumb and unthinking as the images they made. Are there idols in our lives today, probably not little images we bow before regularly, but spiritually, are their ‘images’ which have your focus, even your devotion? These could seem harmless enough, “I wish I was fishing”. Or “If we only had enough money for that big house” or “If only my husband was more like him.” “I wish my church was more like that one”
The list is endless.
These seemingly harmless wishes, when allowed to settle in, can become an idol, which draws us into discontentment, then resentment, and even despair.
That which we desire, adore, worship… we become like.
May we desire Christ and Him alone, and worship Him and thus… become like Him!
Nothing else will do for us my friends, everything else will lead to sorrow and despair. Only Jesus.
Only Jesus
