You would have rejoiced

Today’s Encouragement is John 14:28 [Jesus said] “You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.”

You would have rejoiced –

Jesus spoke a long and powerfully rich message in John 14-17 to the eleven disciples in the upper room. This was just after he had communion with them and washed their feet… He began to pour into them His final and deep words.  Among these words, this amazing statement… “If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father…”

Friends, here Jesus spoke from the perspective of eternity… not from the human perspective of this day, this moment, this earthly life.

If you loved me, He said, then you would have rejoiced… when I told you I’m going to My Father.

When we believers leave this life, as good as it might be, as sin-stained as it is… that is a time of rejoicing!  Because we too – go to Our Father!  We have a tiny mustard-seed of understanding of what that means… yet we believe it is infinitely better than anything we could ask or imagine…

Father help us to see our lives, if but a glimpse, from your perspective.  Show us that this earthly life is only a breath, a single heartbeat, compared to Eternity with you.  Help us to rejoice when one of us goes to be with you! For this is truly the greatest joy.

I and the Father are one
