Today’s Encouragement is John 7:37-39 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. [38] Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'” [39] Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Living water –
We don’t seem to have trouble agreeing with the idea that Jesus is the source of living water, that He is the source of all good things, that He overflows abundantly to all who will believe. But, just a minute, verse 38 says that this living water flows out of the heart of “whoever believes” in Jesus… And goes on to explain that this overflow is from the Holy Spirit, which His people, those who believe in Him, had not yet received.
Friends, we believe in Him, we have the Holy Spirit residing within us, therefore… “out of our hearts will flow rivers of living water.”
I’m looking for the rivers, flowing from my heart… and truthfully, I can occasionally see just a trickle! Sometimes just a drop!
Is it possible, my friends, that we have the ability to open these floodgates within our hearts to release the abundant rivers of living water to those around us? Is it possible that we have dammed the rivers, through fear, intimidation, our own hang ups?
Father God, grant us open hearts, that Your Holy Spirit May flow out of our hearts abundantly to those around us, that Your Faith, Hope, and Love will spread wide the Good News of the Love of Jesus Christ through our lives and throughout the world.
