Today’s Encouragement is Exodus 4:13 “But Moses said [to the Lord] “ Oh my Lord, please send someone else.”
Send someone else –
Moses was extremely reluctant! He made excuse after excuse, questioning God about his speech, asking God ‘what if they don’t believe me?’ and other excuses. And his excuses all made good sense! But God wasn’t deterred.
Remember this Moses was saved from death as an infant, by God’s gracious hand; he was rescued by the daughter of Pharaoh, who then hired his own mother to be his nursemaid, he grew up in the house of Pharaoh as an adopted grandson! If anyone would be comfortable approaching the ruler of Egypt (the most powerful man in the world at the time) it would be Moses!
Yet here he was – weak, fearful, stumbling, stammering, pleading with God, and trying to find a way out of obeying God’s extremely challenging command.
Friends, aren’t we like Moses? Frail, stammering, fearful, trying to find a way out of obeying God… but we’re in good company! And God’s infinite grace and patience (though severely tested by Moses’ reluctance – and mine!) is still graciously extended to us – just as it was to him thousands of years ago. His grace is unlimited, and undeterred by our human failures.
What is God calling you (and me) to do? Is He adequate to equip us with everything we need to do what He has called us to? Is He faithful to go with us, stand by us, cause us to be heard? Isn’t He?
Exodus 3:12 “He [God] said, ‘But I will be with you’”
Lord God almighty, grant us the faith to trust You – to do through us – what You have purposed, planned and prepared. We can do all things through Christ. Lead us on Lord. And thank You for bearing with our fears and failures, and for continuing to lead us into all You have planned for us.
I will be with you
