Today’s Encouragement is Deuteronomy 17:19 “And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them”
Read in it all the days of his life –
How do I read the Bible?
Do I go searching to prove my idea? That is, some thought occurs to me and I search the scriptures for proof or verification of that thought.
Or do I search the scriptures diligently to discern from them the Truth, to find the nuggets of gold which speak to my spirit and which ring true to my heart and extract them to share with my future self and with others to demonstrate my prowess with handling the word of Truth?
What other attitudes might there be?
One reads to accomplish a task of daily devotional reading.
One reads to see if God will speak to their situation or problem or need with the clarity they desire, to get answers to today’s issue.
Another reads to add to their growing knowledge of Biblical trivia, names and dates and stories to impress others.
And another reads desperately searching for purpose and meaning for their life.
Regardless of motivation or our human intent… God’s word will not return void. Paul said, for false motives or pure, what matters is that the gospel is preached. (Philippians 1:18) Is it also possible that what matters is – that the gospel is read?
We believe that reading the Word transforms the reader; that a seeking heart is satisfied – whether desiring protection, comfort, wisdom, hope, assurance or reassurance, knowledge or facts, rules or laws, stories or inspiration…. what matters is that the Word is read. My friends – Read the Word.
