In Spirit and Truth

Today’s Encouragement is John 4:21,23-24 “Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. [23] But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. [24] God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.’

In spirit and truth –

Jesus explained that worshiping God is not a physical thing, not a posture we assume, or a place we go, or a ‘thing we do’, it’s not a certain way of singing.   Rather, because God is spirit, we are to Worship Him in spirit and truth.

Is it possible that when we sing Christian songs in church, and our minds are elsewhere, focused on tomorrows concerns, where to have lunch after church, who to invite to join us… that we are NOT worshipping in Truth… our minds aren’t even worshiping.  So certainly, our spirits cannot.

Rather than distracted mouthing of words, greeting one another with ‘God Bless You’ and other Christian-sounding phrases… What if we really looked at our brothers and sisters and chose to Love them, especially those who just aren’t very lovable… When we sing God’s praises, we focus our minds and hearts and spirits on Him, expressing gratitude, love, joy in our hearts as well as with our words.   And friends… ANYWHERE is the place, ANYTIME is the time, and ANYWAY is the manner, to approach Him in Worship!

Lord help us to understand what it is to truly worship you in spirit and in truth; and help us to do so.  We ask in Jesus’ name.

Heart of Worship
