Today’s Encouragement is Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Think about these things –
Remember the context of this passage… (v5-7) trusting God, praying, letting His Peace guard your heart and mind, refusing to worry and rejoicing always…. In this context, what are you thinking about? When we choose not to worry, we need to replace our habitual fretting thoughts with something… and here we find out what that is… Think about: True, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, praiseworthy things…. this is the replacement for our petty fears, worries, and anxieties.
When we consider this list… there aren’t too many things which fall into these criteria! Perhaps only God Himself! He alone is True, Just, Pure and Praiseworthy! So, think about Him! Consider His life here on this earth, how He would respond if He was sitting across the table drinking coffee with you, How would he react to your anxious phone call? What counsel would He give you?
Think about Him… His Presence – excellent, lovely, praiseworthy… is certainly more than enough to overshadow our worry and anxious thoughts.
Test Him in this. Turn away from (repent) your worry and fears… Turn your heart and your mind to- think about- Him!
Turn your eyes
Sounds like Reign
Really like the “across the table” example…
