You have Overcome

Today’s Encouragement is 1 John 5:4-5 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. [5] Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Because we believe that Jesus is the Son of God – we have (already!) overcome the world.   [Soak on that for just a minute.  Let it sink deep into your heart.  In the psalms this ‘soaking’ is called ‘Selah’- to pause, to deeply consider.]

Our belief in Jesus is the gift of God.  And this gift brings faith, hope, love – every good and perfect gift… and if that’s wasn’t enough…  we are eternally saved from our own sin, and we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). We have already overcome this world.  (Not my idea- this is God’s word!)

But we think, “I don’t feel like I’ve overcome… my health, my bad habits, my sinful nature.”  Remember friend, God’s kingdom doesn’t depend on, and isn’t even affected in the least by – how you feel!  His truths, His proclamation of who you are and Whom He is and What He has done and is doing for His people… doesn’t depend on how we ‘feel’ about anything.  

Truth exists outside of our feelings, and our experience.  Truth is whatever God says!  And He says – Everyone who is born of God overcomes the world.
