Today’s Encouragement is, “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! I will go home to my father and say,” Luke 15:17-18a NLT
Came To His Senses –
The son rebelled, rejected the life and good name of his father, and chose a sinful, selfish lifestyle. Finally, devastated by his own choices, he came to his senses. He realized he was completely destitute but dared to hope that he might be able to return, in some diminished capacity, to the good life of his Father’s house.
The father’s response to this rebellious, ungrateful, sinful, and embarrassing son perfectly pictures God’s Love, grace, and mercy. “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 NLT
God is the father in this story; you and I are the selfish, wasteful, and ungrateful son who humbly returns home to Him, seeking any measure of kindness.
But this Father, our Father God, was watching and waiting for His son, and while he was still a long way off, God ran to him!
God loves us that much. He isn’t indignant, offended, or angry with us. Filled with love and compassion, God welcomes us into His home as full members of His immediate family, chosen, adopted, cleansed, and dearly loved.
Father, when we see such a description of Your mercy and love for us, we have no words; no expression is adequate for our gratitude. We can only surrender our entire lives to You.
