Today’s Encouragement is, “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy.” Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT
Let The Spirit –
We are repeatedly reminded that, because of our faith in Jesus, we have a new life in Christ; we are reborn, new creations, cleansed, set apart, and made holy. “Let the Spirit renew.”
Please recognize that we don’t do any of this transformation! God does; only He can. “Let God transform you into a new person” (Romans 12:2). We are unable to transform ourselves.
But we do have a role in the transformation process. Notice the actions we can take: “throw off,” “put on,” “let the Spirit, ” and “get rid of” (v. 31)
Our role is cooperation. We don’t direct, manage, or lead this effort. But God Himself has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11) and He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
We let Him renew us (v. 23) and we accept His work in us. We listen to His teachings and trust Him to enable us to do what He instructs.
When we “let the Spirit” do His will in our lives, He does everything perfectly. His direction, timing, the experiences, trials, and blessings all come as He knows will form our new nature – “created to be like God-truly righteous and holy.”
Thank You Father for transforming us. Help us to do our part, to accept Your will, surrender ourselves to You, and trust You. And thank You that our efforts do not have to be perfect, because Jesus is perfect, and we belong to Him.
