Give Us

Today’s Encouragement is, “Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”Matthew 6:11-13 NLT

Give Us –

Have you ever noticed the plural form of this prayer? This was Jesus’ response to the disciples’ request: “Teach us how to pray.”

He could have said, “My Father, give me, forgive me, and rescue me,” but Jesus always chose the right words… and He answered them with a corporate, or family type of prayer!

He was teaching us to pray together, as one body, praying for “us,” not only for “me!”

Certainly, He didn’t intend that we should never pray for ourselves, but in this perfect example of prayer, He chose to demonstrate our unity as a whole, as His family.

Our Father, thank You for teaching us that we are part of Your family, both individuals and family members. Help us to pray with and for each other, as well as for ourselves.
