Our Father

Today’s Encouragement is, “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.” Matthew 6:9 NLT

Our Father –

Jesus taught us how to pray. He was clear and intentional, his words always were true, not only well chosen but also perfect.

Before the teachings of Jesus, there were very few biblical references to God as being our Father. Throughout the Old Testament, the word ‘Father’ commonly referred to God as the father of the nation, Israel. But not as a personal Father.

Jesus, as He always did, changed everything!

In the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5-7, Jesus repeatedly referred to God as ‘your Father’.

God is our Father.
We are His adopted sons and daughters. (Romans 8:15)
He is Good (Mark 10:18)
God is Love. (1 John 4:8)

As Our Father, He perfectly provides for us, protects us, teaches us, shelters us, guides us, and loves us.

Our earthly fathers distort our concept of fatherhood. Don’t allow their human failures to cloud your understanding of the Fatherhood of God. He is perfect in every way, and He is Love.

Thank You, Father, for choosing to bring me into this relationship with You – this intimate, personal, protective, and eternal connection – between You and me. Help me to fully embrace You as my Father.
