Today’s Encouragement is, “But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. [9] The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:8-9 NLT
The Lord Is Not Slow –
Slow or fast are ideas that pertain to time. God exists both inside and outside of time, beyond time, we might say. He knows that we live within time, at least our mortal selves, and He knows that our spiritual self is eternal, because He has saved us to eternal life.
So He deals with us in both realms, in our immortality andour mortality. Because we are His own adopted and chosen people, He relates to us in Love. He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). He knows our every thought (Psalm 139:1-2). He hears our every cry (Psalm 145:19), and He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).
This is not difficult for Him; it is difficult for us to conceive it, but nothing is too difficult for Him! (Jeremiah 32:17)
So how long must we wait for the Lord to answer our prayers? Is 4 days too long, 40 days, 4 years, 40 years? The Lord’s people were enslaved to Egypt for 400 years! They cried out to Him, and He sent Moses. But 400 years, Lord?
“A thousand years is like a day.”
Lord God, help us try to understand that You know far better than we do when to act, what to do, and how to do it. Help us trust You and Your perfect plan.
How Long O Lord, How Long
