What Should I Do?

Today’s Encouragement is, “I asked, ‘What should I do, Lord?’ “And the Lord told me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything you are to do.’” Acts 22:10 NLT

What Should I Do? –

Paul recounts his amazing encounter with the resurrected Jesus, and in telling the story, describes the message he received from Jesus Himself.

Now we would expect some profound guidance, right? When we finally get face-to-face with God and ask Him, we expect something transformative, earth-shattering, and amazing from God.

Remember, God’s ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). In this case, Jesus spoke to Paul the simple instruction to go to a certain house where a certain man will meet you and tell you what to do.

Why didn’t Jesus tell him right then and there? It seems like Jesus simply said, “Take the next step in the right direction, and I’ll arrange things for you.”

Selah (pause and consider), if Jesus personally gave us a profound revelation, we would have received all the instruction and truth we could ever want… and we would no longer need to seek Him!  We wouldn’t need an ongoing relationship with Him. We wouldn’t need to pray because we would already have all the instructions and wisdom of exactly what we should do!

Instead, God provides our daily needs, our daily bread. The spiritual food, strength, and guidance for this day, this moment. And because He is always with us, we have exactly what we need, always, now! And we know what we should do, now!

Father, help us take the next right step, and continue to listen to You as You daily guide and tell us what we should do.
