Today’s Encouragement is “One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.” Luke 6:12 NLT
All Night –
Jesus went up on a mountain.
Alone.
No hotel room, no cabin.
Sat under the stars.
Alone. All night.
And prayed.
No sleep. No food. No water. No bed.
All night…He prayed.
We know that Jesus is God’s Son; He and the Father are one. He said He only speaks what God tells Him. No one is or will ever be closer to God than Jesus! He is One with God! (Ref)
Yet, all night, alone, He prayed!
Did God withhold the answers Jesus sought until He had been there ‘long enough’? Did He need to prove His Faith by spending all night in prayer? Was the lengthy time a requirement for hearing God’s direction?
We don’t know. But what we do know is that Jesus is the perfect example of obedience. He always obeyed the Father, even to His death.
If Jesus needed, for whatever reason, to spend all night in prayer… He later asked His disciples, “Couldn’t you spend one hour with me in prayer?” (Matthew 26:40)
Then how much more do you and I need to “spend time in prayer?” Not watching the clock or checking the phone,
But solitary, dedicated, and sincere prayer time.
Because Jesus did.
What blessings might await us if we dare?
Thank You, Father, that our relationship with You is infinite. You have more for us than we can conceive. Help us to boldly, faithfully, and confidently… spend time, all night perhaps, with You, in prayer.
