I Remember

Today’s Encouragement is, “I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done.” Psalm 143:5 NLT

I Remember –

Meditation has gotten a bad rap, especially in Christian circles. In essence, meditation is just thinking about something deeply, considering, ruminating, mulling over, and pondering a particular thought with intentional focus. It involves chewing on the thought mentally, like fine food, savoring every aspect of texture and flavor.

This is our best response to God and His Word.  Pondering, giving Him full attention, spending time considering, meditating on, thinking deeply about Him, who He is, His Nature (which is Love, 1 John 4:16), and what He has done.

This moment of godly reflection, remembrance, and meditation can transform us from the harried, worried, driven, compulsive lives we are prone to… into thoughtful, peaceful, listening, and compassionate followers of Christ.

How? Be still; pray for God’s help, asking that He guide you to deeper understanding. (He desires us to do this!) Then, focus on, ponder, and consider a particular scripture, as this devotional provides daily. Quiet your mind (praying as you do) and eliminate distractions (early morning has fewer).  Each time you stray, return to your focal idea. Be patient; this is unfamiliar territory for most of us. Don’t set a time goal; allow God to lead you.

God’s most significant work for us, an excellent place to start, is the gift of salvation, freedom from sin, bought by Christ at the cross: communion, the Lord’s Supper. Remember? He told us – to remember. (Luke 22:19)

Father, we know we will be blessed if we remember You. Help us ponder, consider, and meditate on You, Who You Are, What You Have Done, and What You Will Do.
