Today’s Encouragement is “The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, ‘Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?’” John 4:28-29 NLT
Left her water jar –
When she met Jesus, talked with Him, and heard Him say, “I am He…” (v26), she left her water jar, ran back to her friends, and told everyone about Jesus!
Like Mary, who sat in rapt attention at His feet, ignoring the many hostess duties over which her sister Martha obsessed… (Luke 10:38-42) this Samaritan woman, after spending time with Jesus, talking with Him, and listening to Him… left her water jar (her duties and responsibilities), and she RAN to tell others to come… to Jesus!
My friends, too often we obsess over our daily duties… I do, at least. And in doing so, I overlook or neglect what matters most! Here, it is sharing about Jesus! In Mary’s case, it was ‘sitting at His feet’. In both situations… Jesus is the focus! And the chores and cares of this world are set aside, neglected even… for the higher, more excellent, eternal purpose of knowing Him and, after spending time with Him…making Him known!
Father God, help us choose the highest purpose each day – to sit at your feet, learn from You, and share with others the Joy of knowing You!
