You Were Sealed

Today’s Encouragement is, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV

You were sealed – 

When you heard and then believed, you were sealed. 

The idea of a seal is sometimes lost on our current culture.  In ancient times, a person of authority had a unique and personalized seal, which was used much like a signature today. An embossed ring, called a signet ring (as in signature), was often used to impress hot wax.  This was recognized as the affirmation, confirmation, and assurance of the authenticity of that person’s approval and authority on the sealed document. 

The seal was placed on official documents, laws, edicts, and letters… each marked in this way as if announced… “I approve of this. I wrote this, and I created this. This is mine!”

Now, we, all believers in Jesus, are sealed!  Not with wax and a ring… but with the far more rare and personal seal- the Holy Spirit of God!  

Note what the Bible doesn’t say: “The really sincere believers, or the people who do everything perfectly, will be sealed someday.”  No, it reads, “When you heard and believed in Him…

We hear and believe, and He seals us. We don’t do this or earn it; God does it. He puts His unique ’stamp of approval’ on each of us.  

Father God, we don’t deserve even a tiny fraction of Your immeasurable grace. We are overwhelmed by Your adoption of us as Your own. That You would seal us for eternity with Your Holy Spirit is beyond our comprehension. We accept this by Faith alone, and we sincerely Thank You!
