Today’s encouragement is, “In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow God’s laws and commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful. After Hezekiah had faithfully carried out this work, King Sennacherib of Assyria invaded Judah. 2 Chronicles 31:21-32:1a NLT
Sought God Wholeheartedly-
Hezekiah was a good king of Judah, rare in those days! He sought God with his whole heart! And yet… the Assyrian king attacked Hezekiah!
Wait a minute… this good king, who sincerely sought God, did his best to clean up the temple, called the people and priests to serve God wholeheartedly… this very good man… was attacked?
Yep! Bad guys do bad stuff to good guys! Well, they try to, at least!
But the story isn’t over! As the enemy gathered around Jerusalem, King Hezekiah encouraged his people, saying, “’Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side! He (Assyria) may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!’ Hezekiah’s words greatly encouraged the people.” 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 NLT
Hard times come, even for sincere believers who wholeheartedly seek God.
But – our God preserves, protects, and fights our battles for us!
So, “Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged,” even when the enemies surround you, because there is “a Power far greater on our side!”
Thank You, Father, for helping us and fighting for us! And help us seek You wholeheartedly!
