Today’s Encouragement is, “But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall.” 2 Chronicles 26:16a NLT
Become Powerful-
The Old Testament kings often served God faithfully in their early years while their kingdom was being established. But when they became powerful and full of pride in all their accomplishments, it led to their downfall. “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18 NLT
Human pride is a destructive force. It may be pride in the way we look, our wealth, our physical strength, or our mental ability, or, for believers, pride in our humility or the sacrifices we make for God…
The external demonstration of internal pride isn’t important; the root of pride grows deep and emerges in various ways. But the consistent underlying seed of pride is, “I did this!” “Look at me!” “Ain’t I Something!” “I, Me, Mine!”
When we begin our relationship with God, we recognize our need for God’s grace, love, and power in our lives. We need Him; the need is clear and paramount. Yet, as we grow stronger and more capable in our faith, we will be tempted to become prideful… and this always leads to our downfall!
But when we recognize our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:10), we can realize our need for God’s divine power. We can rely on His power, which is infinitely, incomparably greater than ours. His power then becomes our strength!
Father God, thank You for teaching us and revealing Your power and ways. Help us rely on Your infinite strength and recognize that we are nothing without You (John 15:5).
