Daily Bread

Today’s Encouragement is, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11 ESV

Daily Bread –

This is from the model prayer that Jesus taught to His disciples.  Was He only talking about bread?

Previously, he reminded us, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” Matthew 4:4b ESV

In Exodus 16, God provided His people (millions) with daily food called manna—only enough for each day, but consistently enough!

Don’t we need to eat something every day, some water to drink? Do we ever stop needing this?

Jesus explained, “I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35)

Yes, Jesus told us to pray and look to God for every need we have, including our daily food. But later, He clarifies that we also need to take into ourselves (to eat) the Bread of Life… which fully satisfies, fulfills, and completes us! Communion reminds us of this as well!

Just as we need food every day, we need Jesus every day.  And we need His truth every day!  We sometimes get off-track, distracted, and even misled.  Returning daily to His Truth helps us stay clear-headed and move in the right direction. Many of us do things daily: exercise, eat right, drink plenty of water, pray, try to be kind, etc., but what about the spiritual being? The eternal life within each of us?  Wouldn’t it be wise to take in the Word of God daily? To ‘eat true spiritual food’ so that our spirits are strengthened?

Father, Help us to look to You daily for our every need, including our daily food and spiritual nourishment and guidance. We need You, Lord, just like sheep need a shepherd…

Lord, I need You
