Today’s Encouragement is, “For you bless the godly, O LORD; you surround them with your shield of love.” Psalm 5:12 NLT
Shield of Love –
Who is godly? We are! Because we believe in Jesus and choose to worship Him… we have become the sons and daughters of God. (John 1:12)
Not perfect, but forgiven.
Not sinless, but cleansed.
Not our efforts, but Jesus’.
David wrote these words… and he was guilty of both adultery and murder… yet He also accepted the forgiveness of God and recognized that, by God’s grace, as a cleansed, forgiven human… he was godly.
You are, too! A godly person! But only by God’s grace that sets us free from ourselves and our sinfulness.
So… because we are godly people, by the grace of Jesus… We are surrounded by His Shield of Love! The ESV describes it as ‘You cover him with favor as a shield.’
Imagine we are in a battle (and we always are), and God Himself stands next to us, covering (surrounding) us as we crouch beside him with His Shield. As if He proclaims to the enemy, to the world… “This one is mine; you will not harm him!”
Notice that this shield is not made of steel or gold; it is His Love… He protects us from all evil with… His Love.
That’s God’s favor. That’s how He blesses the godly. That’s His protection for you and me!
Father, Your many promises and blessings for us in Your Word are truly overwhelming. Help us to believe and accept all the good things that You have for us, Your chosen, dearly loved, adopted, and protected people.
