Today’s Encouragement is Ephesians 4:23-24 NLT Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy.
Your New Nature –
Notice that we already have this new nature! We don’t need to work to get it. And we can put on either nature. This is our choice.
We can Let- the Spirit renew our thoughts and attitudes. God does the renewal part, we just Let Him!
Also notice what is being renewed- it is our thoughts and attitudes, our minds.
This is also clearly revealed in Romans 12:2b “…let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…”.
In both verses, we LET God’s Spirit do this – renew/transform our thinking, emotions, our inner being. We don’t have to figure out how to change ourselves! It’s not up to us! Thank You God! It’s His work in us! He knows exactly how much we need, when and where and why… and He’s the master of all. We simply LET Him!
So, as God renews and transforms us… our part is to ‘Put On’ (to accept and be aware of) our new, transformed nature… and this New Nature is truly righteous (perfectly right with God) and holy (pure, totally free from sin, and precious to Him).
We cannot pretend to put on this New Nature… like an actor assumes a role. Rather we can acknowledge His Spirit within us and allow (Let) Him to renew our thoughts and attitudes, to change the way we think!
Father Your kindness to us is so amazing. That You would send Your Spirit to live within each believer, to transform our nature to be Like Yours – You are truly kind and merciful!
