Today’s Encouragement is Genesis 18:21 NLT I am going down to see if their actions are as wicked as I have heard. If not, I want to know.”
As I have heard –
In the infamous account of the sin-filled cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Lord (the Messiah, Jesus who will later come to earth) said this to Abraham.
He and two others came to visit Abraham before they went to Sodom. Abraham prepared a meal to honor them, and then the Lord and Abraham had a discussion about Sodom.
The encouragement for us today is this… the Lord clearly states that an outcry (ESV) against the sin of those living in Sodom has come to Him.
The account is not specific as to who brought this ‘Outcry’ to God… but… someone, somewhere… was crying out to God about the evil behavior in Sodom! God heard… and He came to investigate!
Perhaps it was relatives of those living in Sodom, or Abraham himself? It’s not told who did so, but it is clear… someone prayed to the Lord about the terrible sin going on in Sodom!
Someone prayed:
God Heard! He still Hears!
God responded! He still Responds!
God acted! He still acts!
We need not fear the judgment that came to these people, for we are saved by grace and forgiven for all our sins. But we can be assured that God hears us as we cry out to him for whatever reason. Even an outcry against evil!
Father Thank You for listening intently to every prayer, every outcry of Your people. We trust in Your Justice and Mercy, and thank You for saving us, hearing us, and loving us!
This Is Our God
