Today’s Encouragement is Psalm 59:16 ESV But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.
But I will Sing –
This song, Psalm 59 begins with a prayer for protection against his enemies, evil bloodthirsty men who are trying to kill him. He recounts their terrifying acts of merciless violence! These enemies were real, evil, and persistent, coming back every evening to hunt.
The evil in this world is very real. Satan prowls like a lion seeking someone to devour. It’s true today, just look at the news.
Yet, the song ends with these words of decision…
“But – I will sing!”
How do we respond to the evil around us? Do we run to our homes and lock the door and cower inside, living in perpetual fear of others, the world, this life? Or, as believers in Jesus, is there a better way to live?
Seeing clearly the evil, we can choose to Sing, in the morning or anytime, of our God! We can praise His strength, and His steadfast Love! We don’t live in denial of evil, rather we see it clearly and Still, Yet, But…. We Sing! We sing to Him, and as we do, we remember His Love, His Strength, His Mercy, Protection, and Kindness to us, His chosen people.
Father God, as we see tragedy, heartbreak, loss, and evil in this world, strengthen us to turn to You in faithful prayer and song, instead of living in fear. Help us to always trust and praise You, especially in the darkest times.
Praise You in this Storm
