Today’s Encouragement is Luke 7:47 (NLT) [Jesus said] “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”
Shown me much Love –
This woman anointed Jesus with precious perfume and demonstrated a most beautiful and unique depth of sincere, pure Love for Him. Her great love, Christ explained, showed how deep her sins were, and her recognition of this.
The depth of her love for Christ was in direct relation to her gratitude for the forgiveness of her many sins.
Some have paraphrased this passage: ‘ Those who are forgiven little, love little; those who are forgiven much, love much.’ This is true, but please don’t miss the essential underlying truth that… ALL of us, like this woman, have been forgiven Much! We have been forgiven for even the darkest of our sins, for ALL our sin!
As we recognize the truth of His Grace, the depth of our sinfulness, and we accept His Forgiveness… then God Himself fills us to overflowing with Gratitude and this deep Love… for Him first, and then for one another. What a mystery! What a truth! What an amazing Grace has been granted to us!
Lord God, Grant us the blessing of seeing how dark, how black, how many, our sins are… so that we too may understand the depth of Your forgiveness, and then we may Love You and others as deeply as this forgiven woman.
