Today’s Encouragement is James 3:4-5 NLT And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.
A Tiny Spark –
Often this passage about our tongue, which is a metaphor for ‘our words’, is used negatively to scold or accuse those who use their words for harm. However, the positive side of this passage is just as true. The words we say, reflecting the true thoughts of our hearts, are a tiny spark that can engender a blazing fire of warmth, comfort, and beauty!
Our negative and critical words can have the same powerful, but negative impact.
So, what are you saying? What are you sparking with your words? Are you lighting a fire of Hope, Strength, Reassurance, and Faith with your words? Or are you igniting doubt, distrust, disappointment, and defeat? Either way, this comes from within, for ‘out of the heart the mouth speaks’ (Luke 6:45).
My friends, we know that God resides within those of us who trust Him. And the fruit, the results of His Spirit within us, is ‘Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control’ (Gal. 5:22).
And from such a God-filled heart, the tiny spark from our tongue will set the world ablaze with His praises! And it will direct and ignite, set on fire, your own life to follow in His ways!
Father God, help us guard our words and guide us in the type of speech that honors You, which is filled with Hope and Confidence in Your Grace and Your Love. We ask in Jesus’ Name.
