Today’s Encouragement is 2 Timothy 1:14 NLT Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.
Carefully guard –
Through the power of the Holy Spirit (we cannot do this on our own), we are advised to ‘carefully guard’ this treasure, “the precious truth”, which is the Good News of Jesus Christ, which was entrusted, given as a blessing for us to care for and use properly.
So, how do we guard this precious truth? We nurture it. We ‘feed’ it ‘oxygen’ so that it is alive and vibrant and flaming within our lives. We’ve all seen others, perhaps ourselves, “on fire for God” at times, and this is a life fanned into flames! (V6)
And we work carefully to guard this precious truth, to keep it untainted by the world, by the latest ideas, fads, trends, philosophies, and all untruth.
Today’s culture is constantly screaming at us – ‘Change!’, ‘Express-yourself’, ‘Don’t tell me…’ anything! ‘Listen to Me’, ‘Be like Me’, ‘You do You!’ And a myriad of similar ideas – all throwing off any restraint and any sound definition of Truth.
For us, the believers in Jesus, the remnant of His church, the salt and light of this world, we must carefully guard the Truth of Jesus Christ. We must not allow the Truth of His Good News which is dwelling within each of us, to be perverted, infected, distorted by the ranting of the masses.
God’s Truth is eternal. The Bible describes Him. Jesus is The Truth. Lord, help us to carefully guard this precious Truth, through the Power of Your Holy Spirit.
