Today’s Encouragement is Philippians 4:19 NLT And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
All your needs –
Sometimes a verse a sentence or thought can stand alone. It is a truth with no need of further explanation. And yet, almost always, we learn more about this truth, clarify the intent, and grow in our spiritual understanding, as we considered the context of the message. This is an example.
The preceding sentence adds great depth to this statement, that God will supply all! Paul explains… Philippians 4:18 NLT At the moment I have all I need-and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.
The Philippian church had just made a generous gift to him, which Paul described as pleasing to God. And Paul now responds, God will supply all your needs.
My friends, God is pleased when we are genuinely generous to others. Why is this? Is it possible that our generosity reflects our understanding of His generosity towards us? We can give generously because He has already, first, given so generously to us? In the same manner as His Love, in 1 John 4:19 NLT “We love each other because he loved us first.”
Similarly, 2 Corinthians 9:6 NLT “Remember this-a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.”
Father God, please grant us the faith to give generously, with gratitude in our hearts, because we realize that You have already given so generously to us, and because we know that You will supply all our needs.
My God shall supply all my needs
