Today’s Encouragement is, “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NLT
Comfort, Hope, and Strength –
Ever had one of “those” nightmares? You’ve committed some terrible crime, and you are running from the consequences, shame, the law, prison, and perhaps execution. There’s nowhere to turn, no safe place, no escape, and no hope.
Well, obviously I have! Nightmares are no fun! It is some relief to wake up, to remember it’s just a bad dream, and shake the thoughts from your mind and begin your day, and thank God that we have the capacity to let go of such destructive thoughts and emotions!
But such nightmares can also become reality. We can find ourselves in any number of such nightmare scenarios at any time. We cannot wake up and shake it off; our human capabilities are inadequate. We may be overcome by it, try to escape with drugs, or make some other inadequate effort.
But for those of us who believe in Jesus and know His Love, we can turn to Him in our failures and in our nightmare situations, and receive His eternal comfort, wonderful hope, and His strength. Because He loves us. Jesus lived and died to extend God’s perfect Grace and Love to all who will accept Him. We are guilty and deserve to live the nightmare! But God says, No! And gives us the Grace (undeserved favor) of His Comfort, Hope, and Strength to overcome it.
Thank You, Father, for Your Love. Help us look to You alone.
God of All Comfort
