Today’s Encouragement is, “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.” Jeremiah 18:6 NLT
In My Hand –
God told Jeremiah to go to the potter, and He would speak to him there (v2). The potter was forming his work, but it wasn’t quite right, so he started over, reshaping it to be what he wanted it to become.
Notice this analogy is not about a finished clay jar, but a work in process. And a transformation work, from useless clay into a useful jar.
We are like clay in God’s hands. He is doing the work, envisioning, creating, forming, shaping, and designing each of us.
We fuss and fret over how to do better, overcome sin, and create a new life for ourselves… but this is God’s work, His plan, His way, not ours!
This concept is repeated:
He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11)
We let God transform us (Romans 12:2)
We are being made holy (Hebrews 10:14)
God causes everything to work for our good (Romans 8:28)
He will finish the good work He has started in us (Philippians 1:6)
It is His work, not ours.
We are in progress, not yet complete.
God Himself is doing the transforming work in us. He is molding us into His plan.
Our role is not to be the potter, not to work, strive, plan, or direct, but to be the clay, and to accept, yield, surrender, and trust Him. And as we do so, His work is perfect. He makes no mistakes.
Thank You, Lord, that You are recreating us. We choose to willingly surrender to Your transformation process.
