Today’s Encouragement is, “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” James 4:17 NLT
What You Ought –
“Wait, how is this encouraging?” Bear with me, please.
The other day, I saw a lady in a stalled car on a city street. I felt like I should stop and help, but I drove on by. I’ve thought about it a few times since then and realized I had chosen to take care of myself rather than help another person. I felt a little sense of shame and regret for not being kind, but then remembered that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.
So, I prayed, “Father, help me be more open to spontaneously be kind and helpful, less focused on my agenda and more focused on expressing Your Love to others.”
I’m sure someone, sometime, came to the rescue. But I missed the opportunity to be the blessing, and possibly receive a blessing in that moment.
I knew the good I ought to do (I could have turned around and helped), but I didn’t. And that is sin! (See today’s verse) But – I’m forgiven! There’s no condemnation (Romans 8:1)!
In God’s perspective (the only one that matters!), when He prompts me to do something (which will always be a good something!), and I don’t do it… It’s sin. He forgives, and even forgets my sin. And I have the opportunity to learn from this.
Father, Thank You for Your Grace, Forgiveness, and Love. Help us say ‘Yes’ to Your Voice. To do the good that You place before us, in faith, without fear. You are the source of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17).
Yes (Obedience)
