Today’s Encouragement is, “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 NLT
The Darkest Valley –
Although the psalm is familiar, the promise, the truth, and the power are still as fresh as the day it was written, because God inspired David to write these words 3500 years ago. The word of God is alive (Hebrews 4:12).
When we have frightening, difficult, painful, lonely, sorrowful seasons of life, it is the darkest valley. Our God is close beside us. We know this only by faith. Our eyes don’t see, our ears don’t hear; our senses don’t grasp the spiritual reality. We may or may not feel His Presence, especially when our human emotions are hyperactive with fear, pain, or sorrow.
But we can choose to return to faith, spiritually turning away our thoughts from the darkness of our current valley to the brilliant light of God’s truth. Notice his statement, decision, and choice: “I will not be afraid.”
We choose – fear or faith. They do not coexist. We have the ability to choose.
Faith knows:
God is close beside us.
He will never leave us.
Nothing can separate us.
And He is our strength.
Thank You, Father God, for Your Presence here with us now, and always. “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me.”
We will choose faith in You, and we will not fear.
I Am Not Alone
